You need to try these...

White Chocolate and Macadamia Nut Brownies

Ingredients
125g unsalted butter
250g white chocolate, cut into chunks, or buttons
4 large eggs
1 teaspoon salt
350g caster sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
300g plain flour
250g macadamia nuts, roughly chopped
25 x 20 x 5cm brownie tin, buttered (doesn't have to be this size, could use an alternative tin -this is just what's specified in the recipe)

Preheat the oven to 170 Degrees C.

Melt the butter and chocolate either in a microwave or a double boiler. In a large bowl, beat the eggs with the salt until light and beginning to whoosh up in volume, then add the sugar and the vanilla, and continue beating until really thick and creamy.

Beat in the slightly cooled chocolate mixture and then add the flour and nuts, folding in gently. Pour into your prepared tin and cook for 35 minutes or until set on top and gooey in the middle. Leave for 3-5 minutes before cutting into small squares.

Quiz from Jodi...

1. If you could build a house anywhere, where would it be? Probably Prahran, actually... although internationally, Paris has appeal to me.
2. What is your favorite article of clothing? That's a bit of a sore point for me at the moment since i've gained a little weight. I have many shirts that i'm fond of though.

25. From the people you will e-mail this to, who's most likely to respond first? This question is always in these feckin' things... who cares?
26. Who's least likely to respond? blah blah blah... screams of 'somebody love me' really, doesn't it? Do we need to get that desperate? Do we?
27. Who did you receive this from? The forever lovely Jodi.
28. What is your favorite cartoon? Simpsons and Family Guy probably rank the highest.
29. What is your favorite meal? Oh, edible crap... what kind of questions are these? Do you think this is the highest level of issues that I can comment on? No, forget world hunger... forget third world debt... forget terrorism, or racism, or sexism, or subcultural invasion... forget philosophy... forget economy... it's all about what I frickin' like to EAT! FOOD, YOU KNOB!!! FOOD!!!
30. What is the most weird, random thing that has happened to you? Aren't meeting most of the people that influence your life in a greater extent to most the most weirdly (in a good way) random thing that has happened to us?

Ahhh, I should just go to gym and work out this aggression...

Lazy days...

Here I am, on a Saturday afternoon, shortly after midday, and I have to admit that this is the first Saturday in ages where i've felt like I have little to do. Basic plan for the day; a bit of shopping and gym, and that's about it. I guess after this past week at work, where it has been rather chaotic (understatement), to just have a day filled with potential nothing is rather blissful. Even Bnews managed to successfully forget about my review samples this week, and so I haven't even got new titles there to review just yet (will keep calling Mike). But on the whole, it is an amazing day weather wise in Melbourne, and it feels like a good day to pop on a pair of sunglasses, and get out there, pretending to spend money i'm not likely to have for many more years.

I reread my last blog entry and felt the shared two lines for Andrew and Ant may have been a little dismissive, regardless of the content of the lines. Just wanted to stress that this isn't the case, just that I was tired and there are only so many ways of saying that things are all good... all gravy... Andrew has met a rather lovely man himself, and so the household all seems very 'wholesome' lately! lol!

Other recent things that have rocked my world... I received a phone call recently at work from David 'Miss Margeaux' Watson. I often find it difficult to successfully articulate my thoughts for someone like David because they're so exceedingly high that i'm not sure I capture it all properly. David is someone who I adore because he is fun... he affirms life... and yet he is very human and approachable... he is open minded... he challanges the way we think... and he is strong, although will openly admit when he feels vulnerable. He has a uniqueness about him that makes people over the other side of the world, sitting in a room together, suddenly say something like "I wish Margeaux was here cause he would LOVE this!" I used to sit and wonder why friends become friends... why there is that spark amongst certain people that confirm they will always feel comfortable and loved around each other and where it comes from... and now i've given up trying to work that out, just thankful that these 'ignitions' exist. Margeaux is one such flame. Not only does he see those flickers of passion for music and fun and boys that I have inside me, but his own enthusiasm fans it to burn brighter and hotter and even more fierce. And that's why I love our Margeaux, cause he reminds me of how good it is to be alive and to just do it. And in fact, I think that is one of the key elements for many of my friends. No longer do I want drama. No longer do I require negetivity. If you want my respect, my adoration and my love, all you simply need to do is give it back out, and i'll be there.

So, enough rambling... Margeaux called... and it was great to just hear his voice again. One thing with my friends; we might not always be in touch constantly, but you can be sure that when we are in touch, it will be like we just spoke yesterday. I guess Lyle, another close friend of mine, is like that. After years of living together and sharing experiences, I think our friendship has reached a point where it is permenant. I don't need to speak to him daily or weekly to know he is there, or to be part of his life, cause I know we will always care for each other. And, as the old cliche goes, if he was to phone me and say 'be here now'... i'd be there.

Anyway, not sure where that rambling came from since, essentially, I logged on just to write a few lines, but hey... glad it was something a little more wordy than 'Margeaux and Lyle are good'.

No Doubt... was very excited when I read the latest Rolling Stone and found out that, if No Doubt had not covered Talk Talk's 'It's My Life', they would've gone for INXS's 'Don't Change' or Depeche Mode's 'Question Of Lust'. HOW disappointed am I that I didn't get to hear No Doubt, who I have an increasing appreciation for with each passing single, covering two of my favourite bands.

Bit of a run down of some of my current fave music and la la:

Kylie Minogue - Body Language... although there is a wicked mix of 'Slow' going around by the Chemical Brothers, and additionally, new mixes of her classic 'Confide In Me' that give the track a slightly electro-pop feel.

Robbie Williams - What We Did Last Summer: Live At Knebworth... along with the CD, the new single for 'Sexed Up', and the upcoming tour with Machine Gun Fellatio and Duran Duran... yeah, bring it all on!

Depeche Mode - 101... finally on DVD! Now if they could just hurry up and get 'Devoted', possibly my favourite concert video release onto DVD, i'd be very happy!

Various - Stereo Soundclash... one very fun compilation that mixes in dance, electro-clash and a bit of indie punk. Who would've thought they'd all go hand in hand together so well?

U2 - Go Home; Live At Slane Castle... Ok, admittedly, some of these choices are a little predictable for me... I mean, Depeche Mode... Kylie... U2... it's my staple music diet... but they are worth while.

I still need to grab the new Pet Shop Boys, Lord Of The Rings Two Towers, and a multitude of other goodies that I noticed are getting released... I guess I won't continually fill up my blogs with what i'm listening to but I guess it will be useful to look back on this as all being part of tha 'soundtrack of your life' experience.

Anyway, i've killed some time so perhaps it's time to hit the shower and get my day underway...

PS. Yes, it is true that i'm harbouring secret ambitions to one day convince Ant to turn his mobile phone off from the constant SMS's...

Long overdue...

Back, when I was at full swing at FMR, many of my friends complained that they never really got to see much of me. I've been cautious to not replicate this again, now that I am back in the music industry, but I have to admit that the past few weeks have felt more like the start of the year than that fateful day of July 22nd, 2003 for me. I know i've been terrible at updating my blog of late, so I guess this is a belated attempt to try to go through some of the key things that have been going on of late. As usual, I guess it is easiest to break it down into the various different aspects of my life.

Firstly, the most time consuming... work, which has been going well. Although I make no effort to hide that it has been somewhat exhausting lately. I've received a promotion, going up to the role of Product Manager; not bad for someone who has only been with CDFA for two months. And while I officially wear that title now, I guess I won't be fully stepping into that role for a couple of weeks, mostly due to the fact that we're one person down this week and we need to find my replacement in sales before I hand over the vast majority of my accounts. In a ironic but not too surprising twist, they've hired an ex-FMR'er to take on the role of Sales Manager, and so it does feel somewhat surreal at the moment. I truly do like the guys i'm working with. Will, my 'big boss' (I love laymen's terms) is a great guy, and i've known him for close to a decade now, back when he was my BMG sales rep when I was a buyer at JB. Tony, who I work closely with, has a fantastic sense of humour and makes the days just that little bit more tolerable with his witty comments and sarcastic humour. I still feel like I have a lot to learn, but i'm enjoying the challenges regardless of how tired and/or cranky I may become.

Andrew is still my housemate, thankfully. And Ant is still in the picture too, after hitting the three month mark last weekend.

Recent things of interest... let's see... I guess I need to comment on some of the visitors we've had of late. Firstly, there was the fabulous Seb/DJ Kinky, who came over to visit from Perth and who we did not want to go back. I've always adored him because of his blogs (Inferno In Disco - link to the top right) and the personality that jumps off the screen via the well crafted words. But I found the person even more positive and loveable in the flesh, and it just confirmed my suspicions that he is truly a unique individual who I find very inspiring. On top of that, he is a fabulous DJ talent, can sink chocolate vodka mudshakes faster than any other person, and has incredible taste in late night hudcap gifts. He will always be welcome in my 'study'.

Next up is James, better known to the internet and Kylie world as 'Project K'. I heard James was coming over, and was very keen to meet him. I'd always loved his mixes, feeling that he was the best 'fan remixer' out there. And especially after my misinterpretation that he was actually a 'duo' from France, when he is actually one very handsome man from Manchester... go figure! Even more refreshing was the fact that we found we had rather a lot in common, especially our love of music and years in music retail, and the time spent with him was equally spent discussing the countless other acts that we love as much as Kylie.

The third recent meet worth mentioning is that with Tom Parker, a rather infamous figure within the Kylie community based on his extraordinary knowledge of Kylie music and history. In fact, this dinner was spent with Tom Parker, James (Project K) and myself, a combination that (dare I say) may have sent some of the more hardcore collectors into an absolute frenzy. Again, like the two previously mentioned, I found Tom in person to be just as stimulating and 'real' as the sentences he constructs in an email or on a CD slick. Tom has relocated to Australia for a while; a concept that excites me greatly as I hope it gives me the opportunity to get to know this enigmatic and intelligent figure just that little better.

Speaking of Kylie, what did we think of the 'Money Can't Buy' telecast. Granted, it was disappointing that they cut a few tracks out ('Obsession', 'After Dark' and 'In Your Eyes'), but I personally really enjoyed it. Although I do agree with some criticisms that it has now become so slick that it sometimes lacks any 'realness', you can't help but sit back in awe at how far her performances have come. There is some level of appreciation, watching her slink her way onto stage like a foxy minx in front of huge panels projecting freshly shot treated footage that makes you realise that the red cardboard 'Locomotion' train prop may never be seen again. It does disturb me somewhat that I felt tracks like 'Red Blooded Woman' came across the strongest during the special, especially since I find that song lyrically rather 'blah', but I think 'Money Can't Buy' also achieved more than what it set out to do and for that, rah!

Have not been going out as much of late. Which means not as much dancing. Which, coupled with bad diet means gaining a little weight again. Which means that, with summer coming on, i'll probably go through an even greater paranoid phase soon and head into healthy diet zone. But let's face it, I probably need to anyway.

It's getting late now, and i'm tired. I know I have so much more to say, but don't know if I honestly have the energy to write it all tonight, or atleast do a posting that gives everything a sense of proper perspective and justice lately. I'm at a point where I am grateful but not necessarily content. I'm not necessarily happy but i'm far from sad. I have a sense of purpose, but i'm not necessarily sure I feel totally on track. But that is part of the beauty of life. I said to someone recently, or perhaps it was even here in a previous post, that 2003 has been nothing like what I expected, or perhaps even wanted, but it has been essential and will ultimately do me good, although I won't look back on it fondly. Especially after 2002, which I see as being one of the greatest years i've experienced to date, i've had my world shaken a bit, and one of the few consolations i'm walking away with is that fact that I can 'just do it'. I'm not the weak person I thought I was a few years ago. But at the same time, I sometimes wish I could just 'give up' although the reality is that there is nothing to give up to. I'm not sure if all of this makes sense, but I guess the crux of it all is comes back to a past motto i've always lived by; "no right or wrong steps, only steps forward". I'm not sure what kind of step this is (moonwalk?) but it's the only direction I will accept. As long as I continue to find a purpose and a perspective to what I do, then I know it will be alright.

Another quiz...

Not sure why it is missing a few numbers (Leo, care to explain?) but figured this might as well be the destination for all quiz material...

3. WHAT ARE YOU LISTENING TO RIGHT NOW? Nothing actually... but I did just finish watching the new DVD release of Depeche Mode's '101'... hmm... 'Behind The Wheel' and 'Strangelove' still get me every time.

5. WHAT WAS THE LAST THING YOU ATE? eck! Talk about exposing bad diets... it was actually Chocolate Mud Cake from Jimmy's birthday the other night. And you know what - even several days after, it still tastes good.

6. IF YOU WERE A CRAYON, WHAT COLOUR WOULD YOU BE? I've been asked this one before and I believe my answer was 'mangled blue'.

7. HOW IS THE WEATHER RIGHT NOW? Simply fantastic weather lately. Rather remarkable for Melbourne.

8. LAST PERSON YOU TALKED TO ON THE PHONE? Ant.

9. FIRST THING YOU NOTICE ABOUT THE SAME SEX? The same sex? Did someone change this? I thought these quizes always assumed everyone was heterosexual. Um... depends on the person... but it ranges from their smile, their eyes, their body, their butt through to their personality. Different strokes for different folks, people... so to speak, obviously.

10. DO YOU LIKE THE PERSON WHO SENT YOU THIS? He is a very sweet and genuine bitch.

11. HOW ARE YOU TODAY? Fine, thank you for asking. Actually, I think the good weather tends to bring out the better in people. I challenge anyone on a pleasant day to feel down.

12. FAVOURITE DRINK? Pepsi Max

13. FAVOURITE ALCOHOLIC DRINK? vodka

14. FAVOURITE SPORTS? gym

15. WHAT IS YOUR HAIR COLOUR? Mouse brown.

16. EYE COLOUR? Brown (i'm so common)

17. DO YOU WEAR CONTACTS? nup.

18. SIBLINGS AND THEIR AGES: ages too... gawd, not sure if they want me to do that... let's just say that Colin, Leanne, Mark and Russell are all older than me to various degrees and leave it at that.

19. FAVOURITE MONTH? Probably December as, regardless of the origins, the whole Christmas spirit thing does tend to make everyone a little more social and party like... and that's juts F.U.N.

20. FAVOURITE FOOD? I try to eat healthy but I love asian and indian food.

21. LAST MOVIE YOU WATCHED? I think it may have been 'Chicago' on Sunday night.

22. FAVOURITE DAY OF THE YEAR? Hmm... I have no idea... there is a multitude of public holidays and personal events I can choose from. Let's just say that I enjoy a good day off.

23. ARE YOU TOO SHY TO ASK SOMEONE OUT? No.

24. SCARY MOVIES OR HAPPY ENDINGS BETTER? I don't do scary movies. I'm too much of a pussy.

27. RELATIONSHIPS OR ONE NIGHT STANDS? I'm not very good at relationships but I guess that is also up to the boyfriend to comment on.

28. CHOCOLATE OR VANILLA? Chocolate

30. WHO IS MOST LIKELY TO RESPOND? No one, since i'm not sending it out.

31.WHO IS LEAST LIKELY TO RESPOND? And see above one more time... why is this like a mandatory quiz question anyway? Does it really matter? Is it meant to be some pseudo psychological device to distract the quizee from realising they just like to talk about themselves all the time? Shouldn't they just give in, be honest and admit they like to write about themselves? Everyone knows I do. What would be the point of me keeping a blog otherwise?

32. WHAT BOOKS ARE YOU READING NOW? About five beside the bed at the moment actually... a couple on finance management (yes, I really need it)... a novel or two... one on viral marketing (I have a bit of a passion for that one).

33. WHAT'S ON YOUR MOUSE PAD? It's a red IPEX one... how exciting... yay... *looks around bored*

38. WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS FOR TODAY? Upcoming day... um... work... gym... that's about it really.

39. IF YOU COULD CHANGE ONE THING IN YOUR LIFE WHAT? finances... that's about it really.

49. MSN MESSENGER OR YAHOO MESSENGER? MSN, but rarely on it.

50. WHAT ARE YOU LISTENING TO RIGHT NOW? Still nothing, but thinking of putting on Bent.

Five days with Kylie...

Ok... I promise that not every post from here on in is going to be about my thoughts on 'Body Language'. I mean, there are entire forums that will gladly discuss this daily. But I did say in my last post that I would give the album time to sink in, and then give something of a more detailed evaluation, especially since I feel, rereading the last entry, that I was perhaps not as clear on everything I was trying to say. It is more the fact that a release of a new album by any of my favourite artists is going to be big news to me, considering how highly I hold music. I'd do the same here (and probably will) if it was Depeche Mode, U2, Robbie Williams or any of the many other artists that I feel collectively have some input into the soundtrack of my life, and who I hope continue to over the course of many years.

'Body Language', on the whole, is a rather laid back album. I'm still standing by my description that 'Body Language' comes across like the love child of KM94 and 'Fever'. It has that 'lightness' of KM94 (think 'Surrender') mixed with the electro-pop of 'Fever'. There is definitely a triangle between the three musically, while still holding their own individual sound.

I still think 'Chocolate' is one of the sexiest things Kylie has ever done. It has a very 70's vibe about the track - gorgeously multi-layered vocals, and the middle eight and chorus of the track just take the track exactly where it needs to go. I can actually imagine some funky, laid back deep house remixes revolving around the chorus. And definitely on first listen of the album, without trying to build the track up to unrealistic expectations, it does stand out.

'I Feel For You' is another standout moment, and one of the more upbeat moments on the album, and it certainly rides along on an awkwardly cute beat. There is a bit of everything thrown into this track, from pseudo honky-tonk piano in the chorus through to vocal sound samples that slice through the mix. Lyrically, perhaps not one of the strongest songs ('I Feel For You/I could go on and on and on...'), but certainly the atmosphere of the song encourages some flirtatious partying.

'Still Standing', it seems, is a cover... in a similar vein to the whole 'On a Night Like This' on the last album... although this time, only one person has previously done a version of the song. Still, any track performed by Kylie is going to get massive exposure (especially to the European market), and let's face it - what songwriter wouldn't, in their right mind, want that? The track seems to have a very empowered theme, one which i've noticed reoccuring throughout the album, and is one of the more 'electropop' tracks on the album.

I have to say how much i've grown to love 'Sweet Music', and i'm surprised that it has been used also as a b-side. But then, considering how much I loved 'Limbo' and it's eventual placement on 'Impossible Princess', I can see the wisdom in including some form of album taster on the lead single. Speaking of the singles, I have to say that i'm disappointed that the Chemical Brothers Mix wasn't included on the singles. I've managed to hear a copy thanks to the exclusive play on Radio 1 recently, and think it is the most brilliant remix i've heard of Kylie since Fischerspooner tinkered 'Come Into My World' into electro-clash perfection.

'Body Language' has grown on me. I'm only slightly disappointed by a couple of tracks, namely ''After Dark' and the bonus limited track 'Slo Motion' (it ain't no 'Tightrope, that's for sure!), but this might be more because I haven't noticed their subtle appeal yet (although the bassline on 'After Dark' has enormous potential in remixes). I'll admit I was surprised by the Kurtis Mantronix produced tracks. I guess I was hoping for blood brothers to 'How Did You Know?', but now that the initial disappointment of discovering that they're far distant cousins has been pushed aside, i'm enjoying the tracks for just what they are. 'Obsession', of the two, stands out... and strangely, along with 'Chocolate' and 'Loving Days', feel it could have single potential... or atleast I could imagine radio play and a kick arse clip... although four midtempo tracks in a row may not go down as well with fans... ok, maybe 'Secret (Take You Home)' might be fun for a single too (although i'm not sure about the rap).

Nutshell of recent events (especially since I got accused of putting too little of myself in the last update by a few people... but you know... I 'am' dictacted by my circumstances and situations at the time)... went out on Saturday night for Jimmy's birthday. Started off the night at his place for a few social drinks, and then went to this fantastic small bar down on Southbank (I think it was called something like 'Ulumba'?) From there, we inevitably ended up at The Market, and had a fantastic night, spending the majority of it on the dancefloor. I noticed that they're doing a late night performance there using the Project K Mix of 'Slow', which sounds surprisingly good over the sound system. I'm sure Project K would be very happy!

Sunday was one of the most chilled and relaxed days i've had in a while. Ant, Andrew and I just spent all day watching films, making hamburgers and ended the day with a generous serving of fish and chips. We did nothing. Zip. Just layed around, enjoying each others company, and it was probably one of the best 'chill out' days i've had in a while.

Monday was fairly awful. We were a handful of people down at work, and it seemed that Murphies Law was destined to rule this day. Anything that could go wrong generally did, and I spent most of the day trying to rectify things, which meant not getting around to doing my job as I would normally. I didn't end up leaving till around 6pm, as I have a rule about ensuring I don't leave work until I feel right that everything can 'exist' fine until I get back (even if it means rerouting activity for the day elsewhere)... so fingers crossed that all will be fine until I return tomorrow morning. I guess ultimately, there is only so much you can control and whatever hurdles you face, a calm and rational mind will always work its way towards an appropriate outcome.

I discovered recently, to my surprise, that EzyDVD has actually become part of the Sanity group. Now, not that I have any major beef with Sanity, but I tend to wish to throw my support towards more worthy and developing companies. One I would like to point out is Total DVD, who i've recently come across and found to be truly fabulous... so check them out... you know you want to...

Ended up at the Prince Of Wales last night for a good, old fashioned, $1 pots (although they're not a dollar anymore) with Andrew, Ant, Micheal, and Michael and Jimmy. Angie was there also (the little Karen Walker minx!), and a friend of hers named Kimmy, who had heard of me several times before and, for some reason, thought I was black. Considering i'm probably one of the most 'white' people I know, I find that highly amusing. I'm so white, i'm verging on blue... I dread to think of how much beer we actually went through last night, especially considering I HATE beer, but current budgets and all meant that when in Rome... It was fun with the programmable jukebox though, and i'm more than chuffed that my selections (including good measures of Kylie, Dolly, Blondie and Whitney) always received a loud roar of approval and much sing-a-long action. We all raced down to Topo's after for pizza (hmm... Mexican spicy!) and then back home.

Today... well... much chilling out again. I've never really been fond of horse racing... or any sport, much for that matter. But i'm not going to look a gift horse in the mouth by any means, and so I'll glad welcome some time off. The postman arrived before (Australia Post on a public holiday?) and dropped off copies of the new Erasure and Depeche Mode DVD's, which i'm going to sit down and devour shortly (expect postings on them next)... and I hope to get through some reviews today to help free up my weekend for when DJ Kinky/Seb arrives.

Till next post... keep reading my body language... ;p
