Feb already... I suspect that 2006 is going to fly by just as fast as last year has.
I must admit that i'm feeling a little drained at the moment. Summer time fun is all well and good, but can be somewhat exhausting after a while. We had the Artisan Christmas Party last Friday evening. Yes, i'm aware that it sounds strange, but you can understand that there is so many Christmas parties on at Christmas, holding one then seems almost pointless. And besides, many people in the design industry are still actually flat chat then, and so holding it early new year means a more likely turn out. This year, we had around 300 people, so the numbers seem to be growing each year, and the reputation of the parties seem to be spreading. The number of emails i've had since last week from people nursing sore heads on Saturday morning says it all really. Mind you, I spend most of the night just talking, and by the end of the evening, felt that I had talked so much that I had very little left to give. I'm actually not that social at the best of times, and so I do find that my ability to be social is short lived before I go quiet and begin to sink into myself.
I had so little sleep that night too, and woke up unable to sleep anymore. Ant had a few naps during the day but I just became more and more restless, and by the time the evening hit, I was actually itching to go out because I was verging on that tired silly state. A couple of Red Bulls and vodka later, and I had Ant positively floored as I was scanning the mobile sms'ing requests out. In the end, it was Ant and I that just went out, but it turned out to be a fun evening in the end.
Sunday, Michael was throwing an Artisan lunch at his place, which turned out to be a really lovely afternoon. Poor Ant was suffering from a sore stomach after sinking a few too many Red Bulls the evening before and decided to stay home to rest. I ended up getting into my (all too frequent) conversations on philosophy, existentialism, and the fact that I had sat there disecting what 'reality' actually was, much to the fascination of a handful of people, and before long everyone was looking at the potential of the 'now'. Lucky Ant wasn't there or else he would've rolled his eyes and muttered, "Here we go again..."
Much sleeping was had after that.
Work this week... had Debbie start from Sydney which has been great. I wasn't sure if I was going to enjoy her being here or not, but I love the fact that it feels like she is going to shake things up a little and allow us the opportunity to bring in new procedures and the like. Perfect timing, if you ask me.
Anyway, me off here now. I'm still not sure if i'm going to do Frankie Knuckles at The Market this coming Friday night, although he is in my top #5 favourite DJ's of all time. C'mon, the guy literally invented the house remix - you can't get much more impressive than that in dance music terms. There is the Midsumma Carnival on Sunday as well, which is looking set to be fun. No Good Vibrations this year. I've decided no Mardi Gras this year either. Rather save the money!
